Our ancestors are Karanams from Soganur (Village), Yemmiganur (Mandal), Andhra Pradesh, India. Karanams, primarily, had jobs as bureaucrats and government officials before the 1980s. But in the early 1980s, Sri N T Rama Rao, a prominent actor and politician, mandated that the Karanam position be rescinded. In place of a Karanam, he established a Village Administrative Officer position. However, Sri N Chandrababu Naidu had done away with it also and appointed Panchayat Secretaries, working under the Panchayat Raj Department.
